Wedding DJ Prices, Wedding DJ Costs, Mobile Disco Prices and Mobile DJ Prices will vary to due a number of different factors.
One of the first questions asked by clients is how much do you charge for a disco? In order to give you the answer the DJ will need to consider various factors that will influence the Wedding DJ Price, Wedding DJ Cost, Mobile Disco Cost or Mobile DJ Price that he/she will charge.
A DJ may well have a ‘standard’ price that he will quote for Wedding DJ Price, Wedding DJ Cost, Mobile Disco Cost or Mobile DJ Price on the assumption of some set hours say 7.30 – 11.30 pm and travel within a specified distance, say 10 miles of his base – however DJ prices will vary considerably for some or all of the following reasons:
Performance times: the longer the performance times, the higher the price will be. Hours after 12.00 midnight may well be charged at a higher rate than those before midnight. Do you want your Wedding DJ to play background music during your meal?
Venue Location: the further a venue is away from the DJs base, there will be additional travel costs for the DJ to consider. However saying that it can be the case that a DJ travelling to a venue maybe cheaper than prices quoted by local DJs, I can often be better value for money travelling to venues in London, than the higher ‘London Prices’ charged by local DJs.
Access at the venue: A DJ may well charge more for performing at venues with difficult access. Difficult access can take many forms but invariably the longer it takes to load into, and load out of a venue, the more a DJ may charge. As an example there is a snooker club venue near me that can be a nightmare to get into. It’s on the first floor with the main entrance on the High Street. It has a lift which can help on a Friday (although the lift is sooooo slowwwww!). However the High Street is pedestrianised on Saturdays so there is no vehicular access after 10.00 am till 6.00 pm, so there is ‘no access’ via the main entrance. The rear access is via an external fire escape staircase, which consists on two and a half flights of steps, which adds 20 – 30 minutes of just walking the gear up and down stairs for the load in and the load out, all the equipment has to be transported by hand as you cannot use a trolley. Such additional time taken will be considered by the DJ when formulating his price.
Number of Guests Attending / Venue size: The number of guests attending and venue size are related – more guests/ a bigger venue may require a bigger sound system to be provided. Most DJs will have use a sound system that is capable of providing a good sound for 100 guests (some don’t beware!), this will be the standard system they use most of the time (the ‘standard’ system I use is capable of much more than this). The more guests you have and the larger the venue is then the DJ may well have to provide more in terms of a sound system to cope/maintain a good sound level. Marquees require special attention as the marquee walls/ceiling will absorb much of the sound produced so a larger sound system will be required as standard. Provision of a larger PA system may add to the overall cost quoted by the DJ for Wedding DJ Prices, Wedding DJ Costs, Mobile Disco Prices and Mobile DJ Prices.
Services Required: You may just require a simple 4 hour disco with appropriate sound and lights, you may want the DJ to provide uplighting to make your dreary venue/marquee into a beautiful setting to celebrate your wedding, you may want background music to be played during your wedding breakfast, you might want photo display, you may want a projector service, you may want to include karaoke, you might want a video DJ service, you may want MC services, you may want an early set up of the equipment – if you want it your DJ should be able to provide it – however every additional service will cost a little more.
Other considerations: Pre-event planning and meetings are often offered as part of the service with professional DJs, these are important if you need some guidance with your wedding arrangements but might not be needed for a 21st Birthday disco.
Many venues will ask to see your DJs Public Liability Insurance and PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) Certificates – reputable DJs will have paid for these, other ‘cheaper’ DJs reduce their costs by not having these – do not use a DJ without these important documents – your chosen venue may not allow them to set up without them!
Other DJs keep their prices low by not issuing contracts, not asking for deposits, only using a mobile telephone number to conduct their business on etc – these operators may give you a cheaper quote but when spending a large amount of money on your venue, food, bar, cake, decorations, invitations are such operators worth the risk – where do you stand when something goes wrong or the DJ does not show?
Day of the week: Most people want parties on a Friday or Saturday night – to increase trade some venues offer a reduction in prices for mid-week weddings or those on Sundays – similarly some DJs, particularly the full time professionals, will also offer a discounted rate compared to a similar function on a Friday or Saturday.
Time of the year: Demand for Wedding DJ and mobile disco services vary throughout the year – Christmas and New Year are good examples of times of the year when demand is high. Similarly during the prime wedding season months of June, July, August demand for Wedding DJs is higher than at other times of the year. When demand is higher some DJs will quote ‘higher’ prices knowing that if one client cannot afford to pay, the chances are they will get other enquiries and the next one will. During the slower months February, March, October and November DJs may well offer keener prices to secure the work.
Experience and expertise: there is no substitute for it – all DJs are not the same – less experienced DJs (generally younger DJs – but not always the case) may charge less for their services than a seasoned professional would. You might consider using a cheaper less experienced DJ for an 18th or 21st birthday celebration but would you risk it for one of the most special days in your life – your Wedding Day?
If you think it’s expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.
