Where should you locate your wedding cake?
I love wedding cake – there is no doubt about it.
One of the perks of being a wedding professional is that I get to sample many different wedding cakes throughout the year.
Big ones, small ones, cup cakes, cheese cakes, chocolate, fruit, sponge…. there are a wide variety available many of them costing quite a bit of money, where a professional cake maker has spent many hours making and decorating your cake just as you want. Others have been lovingly made by a relative or close friend, also at great expense in terms of time, money and worry that is turns out to be something that is picture perfect.
The cutting of the wedding cake ceremony is one of those ‘spotlight’ moments during a wedding where the focus will be on the bride and groom and their beautiful cake and everyone gets the chance to join in a countdown as they cut their cake and take some memorable pictures for the album.
The wedding cake tip I would like to pass along, is really think about where you are going to place this wonderful creation. Ideally you want it located on a table somewhere with a plain, non fussy background.
Examine the above photo the light switches, the fan controller(?) on the wall, the dark blanked out window panel frame all distract from where the focus should be – on the cake – or more importantly on the bride and groom and the cake.
In the photos with the bride and groom above, the bride might have had an electrical socket growing out of her beautiful hair, the groom might have had the dark wooden frame growing out of his ear …. I am sure you are getting my point – think carefully about where your cake table is located – the table has to look nice and the background should be suitable for your pictures.
If you cannot find a suitable location due to table layout etc, maybe ask the venue staff to put it on a trolley that can be moved to the middle of the dance floor.
You would not believe the number of photos I have seen with big red fire extinguishers in the background – not ideal!
