JMF Disco’s Social Responsibility
JMF Disco believes that we all should take our social responsibility seriously, and help those in need less fortunate than ourselves and take care of the environment and world that we live in.
We believe that everyone should try and put a little bit back in to the community around us to make peoples live a little bit better.
On as personal note away from the mobile disco business, I am the hard working secretary of Park Regis Junior Football Club, based in Sittingbourne, providing footballing opportunities for 100’s of children aged 5-18 in the area. Related to this I am also a registration secretary for The Maidstone Primary Football League, a football league that provides organised football for hundreds of football teams for children aged 5-11 year old in the Maidstone area, both on a voluntary basis.
At JMF Disco, we make a conscious effort to repair, reuse, re-purpose and recycle as much as we reasonably can. I do not want to give the impression that we we are fanatically greener than green about this, but we do make a concerted effort to help the environment we live in where we can.
As a business we try to source items we need locally where we can, and tend to support independent traders, rather than large chains of ‘box shifters’ – we like to use them rather than lose them.
We try to get equipment repaired when it breaks down where possible, rather than throwing it away and buying new. Unfortunately this is not always possible, as much equipment now a days is simply not designed to be repaired. When an item cannot be repaired, we often salvage parts that can be reused to repair other items – I have a fine collection of Abstract Twister 4 HP lights set aside for such emergencies!
We tend to use LED lighting rather than older halogen lamp lights which are more efficient in their use of electricity – my favourite Twister 4 ‘s are older halogen lights but as I said we are not squeaky clean when it comes to being green – but we are honest and try!
When we have salvaged what we think we can reuse, then all the electrical equipment is environmentally recycled, rather than dumped with the normal household rubbish.
We try to reuse packaging where we can – I have a fine collection of good strong cardboard boxes in my loft that will come in handy some day. I was disappointed a few months back when a Walkers Crisp Box from 2001 holding some paperwork ripped when being moved and I has to put it out in the recycling!
We recycle our cardboard, paper, cans, bottles and paper as I hope you all do. We reuse the blank side of old printed out quotes as scrap paper to make notes, record telephone messages on etc to help – and it saves me money buying note pads!
We are often asked to do charity discos and fund raisers for good causes and social groups, which we do help with. However we do not usually do them for free, especially if they are on a Friday or Saturday night. We often give a reduced rate but we still have our own bills to pay – if we go out of business will will not be helping anyone! What we will bring to your event is a good experienced DJ, with a good looking disco set up, with impressive lights and sound playing all guests favourite tunes that will try to ensure that they have a great time and we will not cause you embarrassment in front of your paying guests. We will provide you with a great night so that you can increase ticket prices and get more guests returning next year to raise even more money.
If you plan your event for a Sunday – Thursday evening then we will be more generous with the reduction in rates for your event – if you are local, the event does not go on for too long and access to the venue is easy we might even do it for free!
We have helped youngsters and adults with special needs, volunteer groups, young carers, local clubs, cancer and similar charities, hospices, Red Nose events, fund-raisers for individual causes, schools, PTA’s, nurseries and play groups, Brownies, Cubs, Scouts and many other good causes – get in contact and we will let you know how we can help.
In summary, we like to do our bit to help others and the environment, we encourage you to do the same and offer our thanks to all the unsung heroes out there that are also doing their bit – we know your pain and appreciate everything you do to help others.
