Amy Winehouse Dies Aged 27 – 23.07.11
Amy Winehouse – a great singer who is unlikely to be forgotten for her music for a long time died aged 27 on 23rd July 2011.
I found out the news on the day when a guest at a wedding reception disco I was performing at came onto the stage and told me just after I started to play my favourite song of ‘hers’, Valerie, the cover of the Zutons’ song produced with Mark Ronson – I didn’t really believe it.
Her breakthrough album Back To Black was released in 2006 and made her a huge star across the world, winning 5 Grammy Awards including best song and record of the year for Rehab.
She was a reluctant stylish star with black beehive and thickly lined ‘Cat Eyes’ that was not afraid to speak frankly.
Valerie must be one of the most played tracks by all DJs – not only a great track in it’s own right but with it’s 60’s feel a great transition track from going from soul/mowtown into current chart music and the other way around.

She had her problems, but I’ll always remember just how talented she was – R.I.P Amy.
